It’s been a phenomenal year for the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota is 4.5 games up on Cleveland in the AL Central race, and the Twins are honing in on a postseason spot. They have been crushing home runs at a historic pace and ended up setting the record for most home runs hit by one team in a single season last night.
Boom. History made!
No other @MLB team has hit more home runs than the #BombaSquad!

The Twins have now hit 268 home runs this season, crushing the record the New York Yankees set only last year. Incredibly, Minnesota is only 135 games into its season, meaning they have 27 more games to put some distance between their final total and the Yankees’ previous team-high.
268 and counting from the #BombaSquad:
Max Kepler 36
Nelson Cruz 34
Eddie Rosario 27
Miguel Sanó 26
Mitch Garver 26
C.J. Cron 24
Jonathan Schoop 21
Jorge Polanco 20
Marwin Gonzalez 15
Jason Castro 12
Byron Buxton 10
Jake Cave 7
Ehire Adrianza 4
Willians Astudillo 3
Luis Arraez 3 https://t.co/ltdNsxcMea— Minnesota Twins (@Twins) September 1, 2019
It’s been a career year for a number of Twins. Max Kepler had never hit more than 20 home runs in four previous seasons with Minnesota, but he’s has already crushed 36 dingers in 2019. Eddie Rosario has tied the season-high he set in 2017, and Miguel Sano is on pace to blow by his single season record.
Nelson Cruz continues to hit the long ball at an impressive rate despite being 39, and CJ Cron has had a power surge the last two years as well. Minnesota already has eight players with 20 home runs or more, and Marwin Gonzalez could make it nine by the end of the season.
Mitch Garver does it! That’s home run #268 for the Twins…a new MLB single season record! pic.twitter.com/LKu4UTlXnD

Mitch Garver was the man of the hour for Minnesota. The third-year pro has had a monster season, hitting his 26th home run of the year after swatting just seven long balls in 2018. Cooperstown has already come calling too, taking some memorabilia from the historic night.
Mitch Garver said that Cooperstown already took the batting gloves and his hat and the ball they got back from fans in the stands.
He wonders if they'll come for the bat next. What does he get to keep, then?
"The memory, I guess? That's about it," he said with a laugh.

The Twins will have a chance to pad those stats even more over the last two weeks of the season. Minnesota faces the Chicago White Sox three times, the Detroit Tigers three times, and the Kansas City Royals a whopping seven times to close out the year. They are on pace to hit well over 300 home runs.
