Twins on Record Pace, Biggio Coming Up and More

Gregory J. Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Bronx Bombers? More like the Midwest Mashers. The best slugging team in Major League Baseball appears to be none other than the Minnesota Twins, who continued their assault on opposing pitching with eight home runs Thursday against the Angels. The Toronto Blue Jays want to build their own slugging empire, so they’ve called up Cavan Biggio, son of Hall of Famer Craig, to join Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who knows about high expectations. Elsewhere around the league, the Mets’ Yoenis Cespedes is officially out for the season, the Rays used an inside-the-park homer to get a big win and the White Sox have a budding ace.

There was a time not so long ago when some teams would only hit 100 homers in an entire season. The Twins are going to get there by the end of May.

Yeah, I’d say it’s a good thing to have TWO sons of Hall of Famers on your team.

Cespedes was on his way back when he suffered a fall at a ranch and broke his ankle. Estimated time of return now has a 2020 at the end of it.

Kevin Kiermaier doesn’t have a ton of power, but he’s got enough speed to make a dinger out of this mess.

Lucas Giolito has always had a ton of promise. Now he’s seriously starting to show it.
