Tyler Ulis Makes Most of Stage

Everyone heard the rumblings coming out of Big Blue Nation a year ago–Tyler Ulis is a better fit than either Harrison twin for the Kentucky offense.

After the Wildcat’s first test of the season, it’s easy to see why.

The undersized bulldog was spectacular on Tuesday evening in UK’s win over Duke, totaling 18 points, six assists, and four rebounds to lead the offense. Defensively, he was a menace, dominating his opposition wearing a Blue Devil’s uniform.

It is Ulis’ brain that gives him such an advantage night in and night out, making up for his slight stature. He understands the moment, the pace, or momentum, of the game and whether the best option is to attack on his own or create for the talent around him. He doesn’t mind sharing the guard spotlight with freshman Jamal Murray, not in the least.

Sure, he may not be the consensus top point guard in the country, but it’s hard to imagine anyone out there that projects to be much more consistent or efficient than he. If there is any reservation to fully jumping on his statistical bandwagon, it’s that as Kentucky’s young talent matures, they may be ready to take on more of the scoring burden from Ulis. Still, one would have to think it’d still be Ulis who sets them up, racking up assist numbers in the process.

Too long didn’t read? Tyler Ulis is that dude and he looks ready to show the nation just how underrated he was coming out of high school and how underused he was as a freshman in Lexington.
