Teruto Ishihara KOs ‘Juicy J’ Erosa
Soon into the second round, Ishihara planted a left hook to the jaw of Julian Erosa to floor him. Ishihara followed up with hammerfists to put “Juicy J” out cold. Erosa struggled to find his rhythm in the first round as Ishihara battered the inside leg with kicks. Ishihara consistently bombed the left hand as well as the left high kick, and found his target on several occasion. Erosa, known for his unorthodox footwork, ran straight into a left hook in the beginning of the second round. The finish occurred soon after. Big win for Ishihara!
Ishihara is definitely a bright prospect coming out Japan. Not only does he have ties to Team Alpha Male, but his charisma has potential as well. In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Ishihara made sure to address the crowd with an unusual, “I love you bitches!” line. I’m very interested to see what Ishihara can do in the future.
Jason Saggo pounds out Salas
An early takedown by Justin Salas left him vulnerable to an omoplata attempt. Saggo used the submission attempt to sweep on top, and immediately begin dominating the grappling exchange. Saggo moved from side control to back mount after a failed armbar attempt. From here, Saggo flattened Salas out and uncorked a stream of punches to prompt the finish. Very slick Brazilian jiu-jitsu by Jason Saggo. Joe Rogan mentioned that Saggo has been a BJJ black belt since 2009 under Royler Gracie (a direct descendant from Helio Gracie). We didn’t get to see much of Saggo’s striking, but a missed a question mark kick, while it missed, provided a small glimpse into what could be a lethal arsenal for Saggo.
Diego Sanchez edges Miller with 29-28 UD
In a very closely contested bout Diego Sanchez bit down on his mouthpiece and threw down with one of the best veterans in Jim Miller. While Miller looked to be the more accurate, sharper striker throughout the first two rounds, Sanchez’s takedowns in the first round earned him the first stanza. It all came down to the third round as both men had one round in the bag. Sanchez landed more strikes in the third round, but neither man could land anything to much effect.
There were definitely exciting moments in the bout, but Sanchez looked to be a bit more calculated in this showing. Miller is still a savvy competitor, and very skilled, but he appeared a little gunshy against the forward-moving Sanchez. Nevertheless, both men are must-see television.
