UFC Fight Night 106 Odds For Saturday – The UFC is down in Fortaleza, Brazil this Saturday with their Fight Night 106 card headlined by Vitor Belfort vs Kelvin Gastelum.
This may be the last time we see Vitor Belfort in the octagon. Belfort made his UFC debut in February of 1997 so it has now been more than 20 years that Belfort has been fighting with the UFC. Belfort logged two fights in 2016, going 0-2 with losses to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Gegard Mousasi, so he has not been able to hang with the younger fighters in the middleweight division. In 2015, he managed to go 1-1 with a loss to Chris Weidman and a win over Dan Henderson, who is even older than Belfort at this point. Belfort also took 2014 off when the Testosterone Replacement Therapy that he had been using was banned and he has been a lot less athletic and fast without the TRT.
In Kelvin Gastelum, Belfort is getting a smaller middleweight fighter as Gastelum has been trying to compete at welterweight and he has had issues making the 170 pound weight class. At 185 pounds, Gastelum may find himself on the stocky side, especially against the taller, longer fighters in the weight class. Gastelum is talented and very balanced in his attack and he will enter the fight with the venerable Belfort a considerable favorite.
The co-feature sees Edson Barboza return to take on Beneil Dariush. Barboza has won his last two fights, taking out Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez, while Dariush went 2-1 in 2016, defeating Rashid Magomedov and James Vick and losing to Michael Chiesa. Dariush is strong minded and a game competitor who should handle fighting on the road without much issue, but he has not faced anywhere near the level of competition of Barboza, who has been under UFC contract for more than six years and gone 12-4 with the company. Barboza has faced the likes of Donald Cerrone and Tony Ferguson in recent years, and his wins over Melendez and Pettis are wins over two fighters who have been ranked in the top five of the weight class. Barboza is a step up for Dariush while for Barboza, Dariush is just another bump in the road.
