UFC Fight Night 63 Co-Main Event Marred By Controversial Decision

Our ongoing Combat Sports Betting Blog here had three bets made at this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night 63 event. That event saw featherweight Chad Mendes continue his run of dominance in the division against all fighters not named Jose Aldo by taking out Ricardo Lamas with a barrage of strikes midway through the opening round of their five-round fight.

The lightweight co-main event was rife with controversy as veteran Jorge Masvidal appeared to out-gun Al Iaquinta over three rounds.  In the end however, two of the three judge’s had the fight for Iaquinta, who has now won four fights in a row.  For Masvidal, it snaps the momentum of a three fight winning streak, and in losing a fight to a fighter with less experience, the loss probably has the effects of dropping Masvidal in the rankings.  In two other lightweight fights of note, Michael Chiesa outlasted Mitch Clark and Dustin Poirier made a successful debut in the weight class with a KO win over Brazil’s Carlos Diego Ferreira.

In ladies bantamweight action, Juliana Pena returned after a knee injury to take out Milana Dudieva in the first round with a series of punches and elbows from the mount position.

On the boxing side of things, Adonis Stevenson battled his way to a unanimous decision victory over tough Sakio Bika to retain his WBC light heavyweight title belt and set up a potential showdown with Sergey Kovalev, who owns the IBF, WBA and WBO titles.
