The UFC Fight Night series hits Adelaide, Australia this weekend with a show headlined by Stipe Miocic and Mark Hunt.
The undercard is loaded with talent from Australia and New Zealand, and the undercard features two women’s fights in the 115 lb strawweight division as an added point of interest. Australia’s Alex Chambers (4-2) faces the USA’s Kailin Curran (3-1) in a match between two women who lost their UFC debuts.
The second bout pits “Rowdy” Bec Rawlings as she takes on veteran Lisa Ellis. Both Ellis and Rawlings are also looking to win for the first time uinder the UFC banner. Though the matches are not going to immediately impact the title scene in what is becoming a deep division for the UFC, but the fact that all four women are getting a second chance, so to speak, is a sign of good management.
The final prelim fight before the main card will feature undefeated Australian Daniel Kelly (9-0) as he faces veteran Sam Alvey in what is a step-up fight for the 37-year-old Aussie. Alvey has a solid 25-6 record, but more importantly, he has won two in a row with the UFC.
Interestingly, the UFC has only one bout slated that uses all Australian talent, and that comes at welterweight where Brendan O’Reilly faces off against Vik Grujic. Both men took losses in their UFC debuts, with O’Reilly looking to improve on his 0-1 record on the big show, while Grujic has a bit more “big show” experience as he has posted an overall 1-2 record in the UFC.
