This weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the UFC returns with thier FIGHT NIGHT series. The card features the lower weight classes, and has a lot of talent as Jason High, Yves Edwards, Scott Jorgensen and Patrick Cummins are all in matches that will likely decide their UFC fates.
Patrick Cummins returns to the UFC as a (-320) favorite over Roger Narvaez, who returns (+260). Cummins, who is 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the UFC, is best remembered for getting run over by Daniel Cormer. He is a good athlete who at a low level had 4 first round finishes. It is questionable if he has the experience for the UFC, but he did help the company out by fighting Cormier on short notice. He gets Narvaez, who is also undefeated and has a handful of amateur MMA bouts on his record as well. It is Narvaez UFC debut, and with that and his athleticism under his belt, it should be more than enough for Cummins to notch a win.
At welterweight, Jason High rides a two fight winning streak into his showdown with Rafael Dos Anjos. Right now, the books have High as the underdog at (+250) with Dos Anjos favored asbig as (-300). Dos Anjos is a long time UFC veteran who ended a 5-0 streak that saw him do the best fighting of his career in his last outing, when he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Now, Nurmagomedov is good, and Dos Anjos extended him the full 15 minutes. Wins over Evan Dunham and Donald Cerrone leave him ahead of High in the competition level department, and High went down to Erick Silva in less than 2 minutes in his last outing. High will have to show improvement to beat Dos Anjos.
Long time veteran Yves Edwards returns for what could be his swan song with the UFC as he takes on Piotr Hallman. Hallman sits a slight favorite at (-175) with the return on Yves sitting at (+155). Edwards is a veteran of over 60 MMA fights and is a true pioneer. For fluidity and integration of knees and kicks with boxing, Edwards is a true prototype MMA artist and could be considered the most talented overall striker ever in MMA. Even in his late 30’s his technique is fun to watch. Folks, we may be looking at the Bernard Hopkins of the MMA world.
