In this latest Talk ‘n’ Shoot Podcast, we revisit the “State of MMA” as we head into the middle of August. The Beneil Dariush vs Michael Johnson match from UFC Fight Night 73 this past weekend saw Dariush win a highly controversial split decision. Who is judging MMA anyway these days?
Also discussed is the freshly signed featherweight title unification bout between Conor McGregor (interim) and Jose Aldo (full champion). Though the match was talked about as the headliner of a potential UFC show at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, the fight has been set for Dec. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Also heavily rumored as a co-headliner is a clash for the women’s bantamweight title between champion Ronda Rousey and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. Rousey showed no signs of letting anyone copete with her among the women as she wiped out Beth Correia in Brazil at UFC 190, and “Cyborg” is really the only match for Rousey out there.

Also discussed is the situation surrounding former UFC fighter and now former World Series of Fighting Champion Rousimar Palhares. At the WSOF 22 event on Aug. 1, Palhares defended his title against the very experienced Jake Shields, and once again, Palhares won the match by submission as he caught Shields in a beautiful armlock.
What should have been a big win for Palhares is lost because he cranked on the submission too long once again. It was not releasing submissions that has seen him suspended and released by the UFC in the past, and the WSOF has gone ahead and cut ties with Palhares now as well.
