Diego Rivas KOs Noad Lahat with surprise flying knee
Diego Rivas had to fight through adversity, but early in the second round Rivas shocked Noad Lahat with a perfectly placed flying knee – Lahat was KOd on impact. Lahat controlled the action all throughout the first round as he took Rivas down and threatened with a few guillotine attempts. Rivas looked to be completely outmatched so long as he kept getting taken down, but every round starts on the feet. Rivas timed the level change perfectly just 23 seconds into the second round as he took flight with his right knee. It’s an emphatic KO victory for the Chile fighter, Diego Rivas.
Scoggins impresses, out-classes Ray Borg
It was all Justin Scoggins throughout the entire 3-rounds against rising contender Ray Borg. With only a three-inch reach advantage, Scoggins accentuated it with his karate style as he kept Borg on the outside with long, snappy hook kicks, side kicks, and spinning attacks too. Borg, desperate to get the fight to the ground, struggled to get deep on Scoggin’s hips. Even when Borg was able to drag Scoggins to the ground, the South Carolina native was more than prepared to reverse out and get back up.
In the third round, Borg was willing to pull guard. Rather than avoiding the grappling like he did much of the first two rounds, Scoggins obliged in the ground game and dominated position from the top while shutting down Borg’s submission attacks. He may have a few losses, but Scoggins is a work in progress and right now, as he showed against the crafty Ray Borg, he is one of the most promising talents in the flyweight division.
Derrick Lewis smashes Grabowski in first round
As one of the heavyweight division’s hardest hitters, Derrick Lewis lived up to description tonight when he pounded out Damian Grabowski. An early takedown attempt from Grabowski was defended and then reversed by Lewis. From the top position, Lewis found a few brutal right hands which opened up a cut on the top of Grabowski’s head. From there, Lewis passed into half guard and began hammering away on the turtled up Grabowski for the early finish. Lewis maintained positioning very well despite having ground issues previously in his career. It may not have been against a solidified contender, but Lewis looks to have developed some of his weaker elements of his game. Definitely keep an eye on Derrick Lewis.
Burkman shuts down Noons, wins UD
While Burkman won’t be climbing up the rankings any time soon, he did enough to score himself the victory against KJ Noons tonight. Noons, known for his skilled boxing skills, mounted virtually zero offense throughout the entire first round as he let Burkman score with kicks. Noons eventually had some success in the second and third rounds pushing forwarding his hands, but Burkman was ready with takedown attempts to thwart Noons from landing anything too successful. A steady stream of leg kicks and a few takedowns were all Burkman needed to capture the UD. It wasn’t a pretty fight, and neither Burkman or Noons looked to be anywhere near their prime, but it’s a win for Burkman.
