The Retrievers are hoping for a better outcome after their 78-60 loss to the Northern Kentucky Norse in their last game. The Norse’s mark was above their season average of 0.580, while the Retrievers’ was below their season average of 0.490. Joe Sherburne was UMBC’s leading scorer with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting.

In the Eagles’ previous matchup, they lost to the James Madison Dukes, 81-71. One of James Madison’s largest advantages was getting to the charity stripe. They had 35 free throw attempts, while Coppin State had just 13. Coppin State’s Cedric Council Jr. contributed nine points and 11 rebounds in the game.

The Retrievers won the lone contest against the Eagles last season, 81-74. UMBC did a fantastic job of getting to and converting from the charity stripe (19-25; 76.0 percent). Coppin State, on the other hand, had a better turnover percentage (14.8 vs. 16.5).
