United States World Cup Roster and Team Preview

World Cup Betting: The United States will begin play in the 2014 World Cup in Group G against Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Unless something changes the team will be playing without all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan who was left off the roster by coach Juergen Klinsmann. The United States faces a tough road to get out of Group G as Germany is a world power, Portugal has Cristiano Ronaldo and Ghana has been the nemesis of the U.S. in recent World Cups. Let’s take a look at the World Cup roster for the U.S. and their chances in Brazil.

United States World Cup Betting

The United States is a longshot just to get out of Group G as they will be underdogs in all three of their matches against Germany, Portugal and Ghana. The opener against Ghana on Monday, June 16th is huge as a loss in that match would likely end all realistic chances for the U.S. to advance out of Group G.

The United States has a good coach in Klinsmann but the team simply doesn’t have the talent to compete at the highest level in the World Cup. And leaving Donovan off the roster definitely doesn’t help as he was the one true goal scorer the team had. Klinsmann questioned the dedication of Donovan and left him off the squad.

The United States has a good but not great goalkeeper in Tim Howard, a weak defense and not much scoring. They have to hope that Michael Bradley is ready for the big stage and that Jozy Altidore does more than just run around. If they were in another group perhaps they could find a way to squeak through to the round of 16 but in Group G they will do well just to win one match.
