The University of Maryland is in real trouble. It’s been an awful last 12 months at the university. Offensive lineman Jordan McNair died during summer conditioning drills in mid-June, and the football program and university mismanaged McNair’s tragic death so horribly that their accreditation is at stake. While there’s a long way to go for Maryland to lose its accreditation, the fact that the subject has even been broached in the first place shows the severity of its misdeeds.
The University of Maryland College Park’s accreditation may be up for question after its response to a football player’s death after practice https://t.co/QIH9Jm2Sii

The picture being painted is one of a university that put football first to the extent of there being at least a partial cover-up following the death of McNair. Maryland’s Board of Regents made a number of curious moves to seemingly determine the outcome of the subsequent investigation, and that is likely to be the focus of a subsequent investigation.
#LSU is hiring Hall of Famer John Robinson as a special consultant to HC Ed Orgeron. They’ve been close for years from their association thru #USC. Robinson’s wife is from New Orleans & is an LSU grad, he told me: "I've missed being around a team. I’m really excited about this.”

John Robinson has not coached college football since 2004, but he has been hired by Ed Orgeron as a special consultant for this upcoming season. Robinson is already a member of the College Football Hall of Fame after spending two stints at USC, and he led the Trojans to a national championship in 1978.
Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs reportedly cited for being underage at bar https://t.co/FoiE4YIZjW

Tristan Wirfs has been heralded as a potential first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Iowa offensive linemen are a treasured commodity in the NFL, and Wirfs has the frame needed to thrive at the next level. He was named a preseason All-American by Athlon Sports, but he is likely to be suspended for Iowa’s opener for the second straight season after his second off-field incident. Wirfs’ offense is minor, he was in a bar later than he was supposed to be since he isn’t 21, but a one-game suspension seems likely.
