Once thought to be destined for the Pac-12, four-star wing Vance Jackson committed to play for head coach Kevin Ollie and the UConn Huskies last week, putting Ollie’s 2016 class among the best in the country.
Chatter around the recruiting world had recently said that Jackson, who experts had pegged as leaning towards USC, Arizona, UCLA, and Cal all within the past year, had become high on the developmental track record of Ollie and his staff, and the 247Sports Crystal Ball showed a 90% chance that he would indeed pick UConn by the time of his commitment.
At 6’8″, Jackson has the ability to knock down shots from a variety of spots on the floor, stretching his range out far beyond the three-point line. Where he may be at his best though, is when taking smaller wings to the mid-range, posting them up, and using his length to shoot over the top.
Not always known as having the best floor game, Jackson has improved his ball handling and creative skill set over the past few years. Knowing the kinds of guards that the Huskies generally recruit, I wouldn’t expect Jackson to be shouldering much of a ball handling or creating load, but the versatility will certainly serve him well in Storrs.
Ollie now has four commitments rated as four-star prospects by every recruiting service in the country for the 2016 class. Not only are these commitments talented, but the UConn staff has flexed their geographical muscles, pulling in commitments from California, Connecticut, Florida, and Georgia.
