The headlines, the exclamations, of “Villanova Wins National Title” reigned supreme through the college basketball world after the Wildcats’ thrilling victory over North Carolina on Monday night.
For the first time since 1985, Villanova was on top of the world and Kris Jenkins was the hero who hit the game-winning three as time expired.
But once the celebrations die down and post-season meetings take place, head coach Jay Wright and his staff still have to move on into recruiting and towards the challenge of defending their title. So, how will that look?
First, they lose Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu to graduation. However, they return Josh Hart, Jenkins, Phil Booth, Jalen Brunson, and Mikal Bridges assuming no one leaves the program unexpectedly. Add to that, Wright is bringing in a quality recruiting class made up of top 150 recruit Dylan Painter and five-star big man Omari Spellman.
The Wildcats look like a preseason top-five squad that should once again reign supreme in the Big East Conference and challenge for a repeat championship. Whether or not that comes to fruition, though, is now the concern of coach Wright, as the real world awaits him on the other side of this tremendous accomplishment.
