You can’t beat a walk-off in baseball. It provides a conclusive, exciting ending to a game, and the players usually have a lot of fun with it. So do the social-media teams, as the Rockies showed yesterday. Of course, a top play can provide a top moment, too, as can a rare performance like Zack Greinke’s eephus pitch. And finally, Major League Baseball came together Thursday to celebrate Women in Baseball Day.
Daniel Murphy’s single ended a wild Coors Field game in the Rockies’ favor, and that meant a Gatorade bath in some chilly mile-high conditions.

Meanwhile, the Rays are having a heck of a season. And when that happens, sometimes plays just work out in your favor. Just ask Oliver Drake and his sore foot.

Speaking of good seasons, rookie Pete Alonso is surpassing even his highest expectations heading into the season. He added to it late night on the West Coast, and the Mets showed their fans who needed to get to bed what happened the next morning.

Baseball has an obsession with velocity, but Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke has figured out that if you can get hitters to think 98 mph and then throw 68 mph, you can make them look pretty silly.
Zack Greinke eephus curve fun:
Greinke’s thrown 80 pitches under 70 mph this season — most in MLB.

Finally, a belated happy Women in Baseball Day to all female fans, players and participants in the game we love.
