On Sunday, the Detroit Lions gave the Kansas City Chiefs all they could handle. Furthermore, in the 34-30 Chiefs thriller-win; something pretty magical broke out of improvisation after a Patrick Mahomes pass.
Certainly, that’s nothing new in regards to Mahomes. However, more credit is due on this one to tight end Travis Kelce and running back Lesean McCoy. All of this took place with the Chiefs trailing 23-20 to begin the final period of play. Equally important, it probably provided enough high-leverage for the Chiefs to pull off the win.
Let’s take a look.

Now, what you see is Mahomes hitting Kelce with a pass and immediately hit by the defender. Still, Kelce has the wherewithal while being hit in the back to softly lateral it to a streaking McCoy who breaks loose for additional yardage.
Indeed, for an NFL play to grace these pages; it needs to be something special. And if you were out and about early Sunday afternoon, you’re not going to be sorry you clicked on this one.
Finally, this was one of those odd games where Mahomes went without throwing a touchdown pass. While he didn’t throw any interceptions – and made some nice plays with his legs – it’s just the second time in his career that he didn’t find a receiver in the end zone. The last time this outlier happened was October 7th of the 2018 season.
Obviously, these are the type of magical things when Mahomes is your quarterback. To think that so many other teams don’t live this type of charmed life.
