WBSS Super Middleweight Semifinal Odds

WBSS Super Middleweight Semifinal Odds – The World Boxing Super Series tournament at super middleweight is set to continue in February and odds are up at the books.

February 17th sees Chris Eubank Jr facing off against George Groves in the first of the semifinal bouts. The all-British affair is going down at the Manchester Arena and this qualifies as a “superfight.”

Groves is one of the most popular fighters in England and this past year saw him break through and win a world title. Groves was best remembered for his two losses to Carl Froch. The rematch sold out Wembley Stadium and Groves became a household name, but he did not take Froch’s world title belts at the time. In 2015 he lost a third world title shot, this time to Badou Jack in a fight Groves will tell you to this day he won.

May of 2017 saw Groves defeat Fedor Chudinov to grab the WBA’s world title at 168 pounds. For Groves the title win came at the end of a long road and felt very good. In the opening round of the tournament Groves showed what a crafty veteran he has become in taking out aggressive Jamie Cox in the fourth round of their bout.

On the other side of the ring will be Chris Eubank Jr, a second generation fighter who obliterated first round opponent Avni Yilidrim in less than three rounds. At 28 years old he is entering his prime and he has been groomed for this by his father, who is a former two weight class world champion from back in the 90’s. Eubank Jr mixes a confident attitude with a lot a snarling while daddy dresses like a dandy and talks it all up like a British lord. Whether the pair’s act can hold up in America is an open question but in England they are adored by some and hated by most.

The rhetoric has already been going on between the two. Interestingly, the trash talk has been centered around one of the principal factors heading into the fight. Groves is just 29 years old but he has been through a lot of wars. Groves believes he can rely on technique and ringcraft that he has honed at the highest levels while Eubank Jr accuses him of being shop worn. Bottom line in this one is that the fighter who is right is going to probably win the fight and the bookies have made it one of the most competitive lines we have seen in the tournament so far.

The  second semifinal between Germany’s Jurgen Brahmer and the U.K.’s Callum Smith is still awaiting a formal announcement on location as both fighters would like to host the fight. The fight is slated to go down before the end of February, closing out the semifinal round and lining up the tournament finals for the May timeframe. The current odds for both of the WBSS semifinals at super middleweight are listed below.

It should be noted that the quarterfinal round featured good action but no surprises as all four favorites advanced to the semifinal round.

WBSS Semifinal – Super Middleweight 12 rounds – Manchester Arena – Manchester, England
Chris Eubank Jr -185
George Groves +160

Super Middleweight 12 rounds
Jurgen Braehmer +460
