Weekend Boxing Odds – Three world title fights are on the boxing schedule for this weekend that are getting attention at the sports books.

Osaka’s Edion Arena in Japan headlines Friday’s action with two world title fights. Long time WBC bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka makes his 11th title defense in a rematch against Panama’s Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno. Moreno is a rugged veteran former world champion whose record stands at 36-4-1 overall. He went to Japan last September to face Yamanaka and earned a split decision loss, with one judge giving Moreno the fight, 115-113. The close decision loss was followed by a WBC “Silver” title win by Moreno to earn him the return engagement.

The second world title bout in Japan features WBC super bantamweight world champion Hugo Ruiz (36-3) as he defends his title against Hozumi Hasegawa (35-5). Ruiz is a hard-working Mexican who won the WBC belt in his last outing when he defeated Julio Ceja by first round stoppage on the undercard of Leo Santa Cruz vs Kiko Martinez. Ruiz has fought in Japan once before, back in December of 2012 when he took a loss to Koki Kameda with the WBA version of the world title on the line. Ruiz is heading into this return to Japan with the belt already in his possession, and he is hoping to escape the challenge of former world champion Hozumi Hasegawa. Hasegawa has won two fights since his April of 2014 loss to Kiko Martinez of Spain for the IBF version of the world belt. Hasegawa did hold the WBC featherweight world title until April of 2011, but he is considered a bit long in the tooth at 35 years old.

In Poland on Saturday night, undefeated 26-0 WBO world titleholder Krysztof Glowacki takes on the challenge of 9-0 Oleksandr Usyk. Glowacki won the belt in August of last year with an 11th round KO over long time champion Marco Huck. He defended the belt against Steve Cunningham, but he will enter this match against Usyk as an underdog. Do not let Usyk’s short record as a professional fool you, as Usyk is 29 years old andhe comes with a huge amateur background that includes a 2012 Olympic gold medal s a heavyweight (91 KG). Glowacki is fighting at home in Poland against the Ukrainian Usyk, which means there is a regional ethnic rivalry at play at well in this one.

The card in Poland features six fights in all and includes a women’s world title fight for the WBC super welterweight belt between Ewa Piatkowska (9-1) and Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (16-3-2). Lopes resides in the United States but is of Polish descent as she travels back home to face Piatkowska. Check back later in to see if additional lines for this card have been put up.
