Check out our latest video blog where we review the odds up at the sport books for Saturday’s fights in Dublin.

Weekend Boxing Odds Saturday – The Super Welterweight 10 round bout sees Danny Butler (25-5) and Gary Corcoran (14-0) meet for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental belt.  Corcoran is going to enter the fight favored to win, despite having a lot less experience than his opponent. This isn’t a situation where it is old vs young. Corcoran is 25 years old and Butler is 28. Corcoran’s record appears to be very protected. To his credit, his last two opponents of 2015 had combined records of 34-0-1. For his part, Butler has been fighting for regional titles at Middleweight and Super Welterweight for several years. In his last outing he picked up the relatively unheralded IBO International title with a win over Giorgi Ungiadze (30-23).

Weekend Boxing Odds Saturday – In the Lightweight division Portugal’s Antonio Joao Bento (30-15-2) faces Jamie Kavanagh (20-1-1) for the vacant WBO European title. Kavanagh is Irish born, but his career started in the United States. He has fought extensively in the US and Mexico. This is only his second fight back home in his native Dublin. Bento won 3 fights in a row in 2015 and he has remained a very busy fighter the last five years, but at 39 years old he is nearly 15 years older than Kavanagh and many consider his best days behind him. Kavanagh enters the fight a massive favorite.

The rest of the card features four and six round bouts.  Several undefeated prospects appear on the card such as Lightweight Romeo Romaeo (9-0), the baby-faced 20 year old from up in Cardiff and 9-0 Philip Sutcliffe Jr, a Dublin native.   Those fights could get attention from the sportsbooks in the last 24-48 hours.

Of particular interest is the presence of Stephen Ormond on the card.  Ormond (20-2) has won three fights in a row by KO since his failed February bid for a European title where he lost to Terry Flanagan.  Ormond was disqualified for headbutting in the 10th round, but the fact that Flanagan is now the WBO World Champion at Lightweight has proved to be a motivating factor for Ormond.

Weekend Boxing Odds Saturday – National Stadium The Place To Be

The venue is called the “National Stadium” and it is an iconic building and a part of boxing lore. To people who do not know, the name evokes images of a 60,000 seat outdoor soccer-style stadium. In Ireland where boxing and pugilism have their own special place, the “National Stadium” is a small box-like building which can seat no more than 2,000 people. The building is owned by Ireland’s amateur boxing associations and they have been holding fights over there in the “National Stadium” for more than 100 years.

One thing is for sure, come this Saturday night, Dublin’s National Stadium is the place to be if your a boxing fan.
