Weekend Boxing Odds: Sergey Kovalev Defends Title Against Nadjib Mohammedi

This weekend’s boxing odds are dominated by the HBO light heavyweight battle featuring Russia’s Sergey Kovalev’s mandatory title defense against France’s Nadjib Mohammedi.

The hard-hitting Russian has been campaigning for a showdown with Adonis Stevenson, but that fight has not been made because of politics involving HBO and Stevenson’s advisor Al Haymon.

To add to the controversy, Haymon’s “Premier Boxing Champions” is running on NBC Sports going head-to-head with HBO.   The broadcast is offering the interim WBA Cruiserweight title fight between Beibut Shumenov and BJ Flores.  Despite Shumenov and Flores being a lower profile main event than the show normally offers, the network is making an aggressive move by broadcasting at the same time as HBO and holding their live event in the same city as the Kovalev fight.  The odds for the Shumenov vs. Flores fights are not up at the books yet.

There are odds for Frank Warren’s Wembley Arena show this Friday night where a slew of regional titles. Right now the EBU Flyweight title fight between Kevin Satchell and Thomas Masson is up at the sportsbooks, as is the vacant WBO European Super Middleweight showdown between Jamie Cox and Miguel Martinez.

With established British stars such as Dereck Chisora and Billy Joe Saunders on the card and a total of 11 fights, check back to see if more lines from this card appear at the books.

Odds are also up for the Moises Fuentes versus Oswaldo Novoa flyweight bout taking place this Saturday in Sinaloa, Mexico.
