With the weekend approaching, we’ve got three match-ups to keep an eye on in college basketball action.
No. 24 Michigan vs. Xavier
The Wolverines are finally healthy and the combination of Chris LeVert and Derrick Walton Jr. has proven to be among the most dynamic scoring duos in the country. On the other side, the high scoring Musketeers bring forth a big-time three-headed monster in J.P. Macura, Edmond Sumner, and Trevon Bluiett. Xavier has a chance to make an early season statement, but UM’s 20-point win over a quality Elon team suggests that they may be ready to make a statement themselves.
Prediction: Michigan 82, Xavier 78
No. 25 Oregon vs. Valparaiso
If you’re in the mood for scoring, there isn’t another match-up that you need to be keeping an eye on more. There isn’t a freshman in the country flying more under the radar than Oregon’s Tyler Dorsey, and Alec Peters of Valparaiso is one of the more lethal shooters in the country. Expect points. Expect pace. This one is going to be a fun ride, with the Crusaders likely providing a tougher challenge than some expect.
Prediction: Oregon 86, Valparaiso 76
Wisconsin vs. Georgetown
Two programs with mixed expectations coming into the season that have gotten off to rocky starts so far this season. If the veteran core of each group can play well, it may come down to whatever youth is on the floor, in which the edge goes to the Hoyas. Still, doesn’t it always feel like GU is on the verge of underachievement while the Badgers always find ways to bounce back? This one should be close.
Prediction: Georgetown 78, Wisconsin 74
