Womens Boxing Odds: World Titles On Line in Canada Tonight

Womens Boxing Odds

Womens Boxing Odds – The Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Canada hosts a high level womens boxing bout this Friday night as the headline fight of an eight fight card promoted by KO Boxing.

WBC and WBA World Female Featherweight Champion Edith Soldedad Matthysse travels to Edmonton, Canada to take on rival Jelena Mrdjenovich for the second time. The first time the two met was last August, when Mrdjenovich travelled to Matthysse’ home country of Argentina to put her WBC Featherweight belt up against Matthysse’ WBA belt in a title unification bout.

Because the match is a re-match, it bears watching with additional attention. The storyline has all the trimmings ofa trilogy in the making, as the Canadian Mrdjenovich loses her belt in Argentina and is now favored heading into the rematch on her home turf. Obviously, a win by Matthysse would shut down all talk of a re-match, but a win for Mrdjenovich would open the door for a trilogy. With boxing on the women’s side looking for big-time story lines and stars, a third fight on neutral territory in the United States or Europe could be featured as an attraction and showcase for women’s fighting.

Matthysse is a solid fighter from a fighting family who has more twenty fights on her resume. Her brother is stand-out pro and world title contender Lucas Martin Matthysse. Her resume does not only include fights at home, as she has fought both Jackie Nava and Yazmin Rivas, bothin world title fights. For Matthysse, is has had a long career and this first defense of her world title sees her enter the ring at 35 years old.

Mrdjenovich is approaching 50 fights in her career, as her record stands at 35-10-1. She has been competing for close to fifteen years and she has been a fixture of the high-level world title picture in women’s boxing for the last decade in three weight classes. She is 33 years old at this point in her career, and she certainly has paid a lot of dues in her career. Grabbing a pair of the recognized world titles at this stage in her career would give her a chance to earn a real pay day or two.

One of the telling factors in the fight may be power, as Mrdjenovich has logges 19 knock out wins, compared to just 1 in Matthysse career. Assuming that the Argentine will continue her trend and not score a stoppage, she is going to be leaving it to the judges in hostile territory. But for Matthysse, it is that type of adversity that will make the win even sweeter.

How big is women’s boxing in Argentina? While even the boxing press has basically ignored this fight in North America, the fight is set to air on TyC television in Argentina, which is probably the world’s biggest hotbed for women’s boxing and a nexus in general for pugilism.
