World Series of Fighting 17 Preview

This Saturday, the World Series of Fighting’s 17th event goes down at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, with a main event featuring UFC veteran Jake Shields taking on veteran Brian Foster. Currently, Shields (-445) is heavily favored over Foster, who sits at (+315).  The fight has an over/under of 1.5 rounds, with the over paying (-195) and the under (+155).  Foster is a solid veteran with a good record, but he will always be followed by questions about his health, as the UFC contract he had was terminated because he had suffered a brain hemorrhage, and he was not cleared medically by Bellator either back in 2002. The WSOF is already hyping Shields up for a title shot, and Foster is there to try and play spoiler.

At Lightweight, Johnny Nunez is favored at (-210) over rival Brian Cobb, who returns at (+160).  The over/under is at 2.5 rounds, with the over being (-215) and the under at (+165). Nunez is (5-0) in MMA and he is starting to get a rep as a rising star. He faces a stiff challenge in the veteran Cobb, whose (20-8) record and 10 years plus in mixed martial arts give him a considerable advantage in experience.

In the Middleweight division the WSOF is highlighting a battle of undefeated fighters as Brendan Kornberger faces off against Krasimir Mladenov.  At the books, Mladenov is currently favored at (-265), with the return on Kornberger sitting at (+185).  The over/under is at 2.5, with the over paying (-175), and the under at (+135).

A fast-paced bout is expected between Bantamweights Rudy Morales and Bryson Hansen. Hansen is coming in as the favorite paying (-280), with Morales returning (+200).  The over/under sits at 2 1/2, with the over paying (-170) and the under at (+130).

The final main card bout features welterweights Danny Davis Jr, who is paying at (-105) and Adam Cella, who pays (-135).  The over/under is at 1.5, with the over at (-180) and the under paying (+140).

The live card features 10 fights, but the five above are the main card, which airs on NBC Sports Network.

The WSOF hasn’t gotten a video package together for this event, so here is a fun look at Jake Shields as he makes an appearance on the “Bully Beatdown” TV show:
