WWE Battleground 2016 Recap: It’s Bayley!

Tonight is a big Pay-Per-View for WWE, considering that Battleground is the last time there is a combined roster. The three members of the Shield are facing off in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship, and we don’t know who Sasha Banks will choose as her tag team partner (the image above miiiiight be a spoiler). Also, tonight decides which shows have which championships.

The Usos vs. Breezango
To kickoff (hehe) Battleground, we have some tag team action featuring four Superstars who were drafted to Smackdown. The Usos have not seen much success since they helped Roman Reigns fend off The Club, and perhaps a win over Breezango can get something going for Jimmy and Jey.

Tyler Breeze counters a splash attempt by putting his knees up, and Breeze quickly gets the roll-up for the victory. Winners: Breezango

Predicted Winners: Breezango (1/1)

Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley
Who cares about the rest of Battleground? Sasha Banks and Bayley are a tag team on a WWE Pay-Per-View.

Bayley keeps Dana Brooke at bay outside the ring, and Sasha Banks submits Charlotte with the Bank Statement for the win. Winners (via submission): Sasha Banks & Bayley

Predicted Winners: Sasha Banks & Bayley (2/2)

The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
The New Day and the Wyatts are perhaps the the two most opposite teams there are. The fun-loving Tag Team Champions face the cryptic and dark Wyatt Family. New Day has to drop the jokes to take on the Wyatt Family, and prove that they earned their record title reign.

The Wyatt Family will break up after tonight, with Braun Strowman being the only member drafted to Raw.

While Kofi Kingston and Big E try to take care of Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman, Xavier Woods is alone in the ring with Bray Wyatt. Wyatt capitalizes on Woods’s fears and hits Sister Abigail on Woods for the win. Winners: The Wyatt Family

Predicted Winners: The New Day (2/3)

Rusev (c) (w/Lana) vs. Zack Ryder – United States Championship
Besides John Cena, The United States Championship has been practically synonymous with Rusev over the last two years. He is the typical anti-American champion, playing into the “USA” chants. Zack Ryder helps the “USA” chants even further by wearing tons of red, white, and blue to the ring.

Ryder hits the Rough Ryder, then tries to get the exclamation point with an El-bro Drop, but Rusev gets his knees up for the counter. Rusev then locks in the Accolade to retain the title and give Raw the United States Championship. Winner, and STILL United States Champion: Rusev

After the match, Mojo Rawley (who was recently drafted from NXT to Smackdown) comes down to the ring and shouts angrily in the face of Rusev. Rusev, very confused, walks to the back.

Predicted Winner: Rusev (3/4)

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens: A Never-Ending Saga
Sami Zayn has been a thorn in the side of Kevin Owens since he joined the main roster. Zayn cost Owens the Royal Rumble match, and the Intercontinental Championship on multiple occasions.

During the match, there is a nasty apron spot (see below) and Zayn might have a minor injury from this. However, Zayn still continues to compete.

Zayn manages to keep himself from getting severely injured, and hits two Helluva Kicks on Kevin Owens to pick up the win, and make the series 1-1. Winner: Sami Zayn

Predicted Winner: Sami Zayn (4/5)

Natalya vs. Becky Lynch
Here is a match from two female Superstars who both got drafted to Smackdown. Natalya attacked Lynch on multiple occasions without justified reason. Tonight, Lynch looks to get some revenge.

Becky Lynch tries her hardest to escape the Sharpshooter, but Natalya keeps bringing Lynch to the center of the ring, forcing the submission. Winner (via submission): Natalya

Predicted Winner: Becky Lynch (4/6)

The Miz (c) (w/Maryse) vs. Darren Young (w/Bob Backlund) – Intercontinental Championship
Darren Young “won” a battle royal to get this championship opportunity. After The Miz thought this was a fluke, Darren Young proved him wrong by submitting the Intercontinental Champion with the Crossface Chicken Wing. Like the United States Championship, this match will determine which brand the belt will go to (Young: Raw, Miz: Smackdown).

Maryse convinces The Miz that Bob Backlund hit her outside the ring, and The Miz pushes Backlund down. Young, frustrated with how The Miz treated his mentor, locks in the Crossface Chicken Wing on The Miz outside of the ring. For some reason, the referee decided to ring the bell. Result: No Contest

Predicted Winner: The Miz (4/7)

Enzo Amore, Big Cass, & John Cena vs. The Club
Enzo Amore kills it on the mic before the match starts, and even leaves Cena amazed.

A bunch of fighting happens, and John Cena hits AJ Styles with an Attitude Adjustment from the second rope for the win. Winners: Enzo Amore, Big Cass, & John Cena

Predicted Winners: Enzo Amore, Big Cass, & John Cena (5/8)

Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins – WWE Championship
This is the match that (some) people have been waiting for. All three former members of The Shield are in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship.

After Reigns hits Rollins with a spear, Ambrose comes into the ring and hits Reigns with Dirty Deeds to retain the title and bring it to Smackdown. Winner, and STILL WWE Champion: Dean Ambrose

Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins (5/9)
