Love him or hate him, you are about to get your fill of Brock Lesnar very soon. The first big question is around his WWE contract, which is still in effect but said to be expiring. This means that the Jan. 25 Royal Rumble event or Wrestlemania 31 could be the end of Lesnar’s current run in pro wrestling. There are beginning to be rumblings from the pro wrestling side that makes that possibility start to seem more likely.
As everything in pro wrestling is scripted, Lesnar’s appearances and eventual losing of the title should be watched for clues. For the first time, there are rumors of a scripted riff between Lesnar and his long time handler Paul Heymon that would seem to be a portent of his departure. Dave Meltzer, perhaps the world’s foremost pro wrestling authority, wrote that Lesnar’s notoriously tight-lipped team has hinted he may be leaving as well.
It will be interesting to see if Lesnar will just be added to the UFC roster. UFC’s erstwhile rival Bellator has publically stated they will make a run at Lesnar, but here is something to keep things in perspective: Lesnar, for all his hype in the WWE, wrestled exactly four times last year. Offering him a ton of money may get the job done, but if it is combined with some half baked plan like they sold “Rampage” Jackson about cross promoting with TNA Wrestling, that is not going to work.
Lesnar has to feel his first UFC run ended in a bad way, and there was his long battle with diverticulitis that could very well have him thinking that, if healthy, he can make one more run. Never once in his mind has he pictured that comeback run being with Bellator and not the UFC.
And dont forget, after all this, in the wild world of sport books, the Lesnar-Cena main event at the upcoming Royal Rumble event is sure to get a line. It appears it is not a lock that Lesnar will lose the belt now or at the Wrestlemania event in April.
