John Cena Announces Memorial Day Return
Earlier today on Twitter (seen below), John Cena announced that he has defied science yet again, and will return to the WWE earlier than expected.
They said the surgery recovery time is 9 months, but I’m ready to go in 5. This #MemorialDay Cena is back on #Raw. #NeverGiveUp
— John Cena (@JohnCena) April 25, 2016
Cena will return in about a month, on the May 30 episode of Monday Night Raw. That is the second episode after the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on May 22, which means Cena will probably be put into a program going into Money in the Bank (or whatever they decide to schedule for a pay-per-view in June). This is good timing for the 15-time World Champion to return to WWE, with all of the new NXT call-ups to put over, as well as SummerSlam (the biggest show WWE has other than WrestleMania) being only two months later.
During Cena’s time off, he has been promoting his new competition based reality show, American Grit on FOX, which surprisingly conflicts with the airing of Smackdown on USA. When Cena comes back, hopefully the United States title can get some direction with the US Open Challenge, but if not, Cena will definitely keep Raw interesting every week.
Alberto Del Rio Announces League of Nations Break-up
During WWE’s tour in Europe, (now former) League of Nations member Alberto Del Rio spoke in an interview stating that for multiple reasons, Del Rio, Sheamus, and Rusev will be going their seperate ways.
In the interview, Del Rio stated (originally in Spanish, but translated into English):
Actually we will not do anything else with The Wyatt Family because there are so many injuries within the company. We as a group have never worked very well, so we decided that it is better to separate.
As stated by Del Rio, there have been some injuries plaguing the Wyatt Family as of late. Luke Harper is currently out of action with a leg injury, and Bray Wyatt is expected to be out for a couple of months with an injury of his own (the type of injury is unknown). Along with the injuries to their opponents, The League of Nations just has not had any success. Other than a win over the New Day at WrestleMania 32, The League of Nations has practically lost every match they have been in, and after kicking out King Barrett for being a “weak link,” it turns out that being a team just does not work for three great singles competitors.
Samoa Joe wins the NXT Championship At a House Show
At NXT TakeOver: Dallas, Finn Balor retained his NXT Championship for the second time against Samoa Joe, and most would have thought that the feud would have been over then. However, that was not the case. During the NXT house show run of the northeastern United States, Samoa Joe would challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship every night. In house show tradition, champions keep their titles, and otherwise, the faces tend to go over to make the crowd happy. Samoa Joe ended up smashing this tradition in Lowell, Massachusetts, when he defeated Finn Balor to become the new NXT Champion.
What this title could mean is unknown. Could Balor be coming up to the main roster tonight (or some point in the near future)? If he did, would he reunite with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to recreate the Bullet Club? Finn Balor teased a call-up after his title loss, but in a house show in Poughkeepsie, New York, he told the audience that he was staying in NXT. No matter where Finn Balor ends up, it is definitely interesting, and it adds some unpredictability to WWE, which is hard to pull of in the modern age of wrestling.
