Extreme Rules is this Sunday, and tonight’s episode of Smackdown should wrap up the card for the Pay-Per-View. Along with finalizing any matches that have not been scheduled yet, there will be several matches for Superstars going into the show that will build momentum and hint at possible results for their big matches.
Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro
Before the match starts, Sami Zayn and The Miz (along with Maryse) are joining the commentary team. The Miz was supposed to host MizTV, but he decided to cancel it out of frustration. Cesaro and Kevin Owens (who faced each other several times over the past few weeks) along with Sami Zayn and The Miz will all be battling in a fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship at Extreme Rules. The Miz has had a successful run with the title since the day after WrestleMania 32, but the odds in a fatal four-way match are in favor of a new champion.
During the match, Sami Zayn enters the ring to attack Kevin Owens, and Cesaro punches Zayn to prevent the disqualification. Owens takes advantage and rolls up Cesaro for the win. Winner: Kevin Owens
Paige vs. Dana Brooke
Dana Brooke had her in-ring main roster debut last week on Smackdown, and since then, she has defeated Becky Lynch twice. Because of her feud with Dana Brooke, Becky Lynch is at the commentary table to watch the match.
Dana Brooke hits a modified fireman’s carry slam on Paige to pick up the upset victory. Winner: Dana Brooke
Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus
Ziggler faces fellow directionless mid-card wrestler Baron Corbin on the Extreme Rules Kickoff/Pre-Show in an Extreme Rules match. There’s no reason for it other than Baron Corbin is an angry man. Sheamus is somehow doing less than Ziggler, and isn’t scheduled for a match at Extreme Rules.
Ziggler hits a superkick on Sheamus to pick up the victory, which is unfortunately rare for superkicks. Winner: Dolph Ziggler
In-ring Segment
Chris Jericho comes down to the ring to trash talk Ambrose, and says that he will put Ambrose in the hospital for about 40 days. After giving everybody the gift of Jericho, Ambrose sneaks up from behind to attack Jericho along with a kendo stick from the top of the “asylum.” Jericho and Ambrose will face each other at Extreme Rules in an Asylum match, which is essentially a cage match with weapons on top, and the only ways to win are by pin and submission.
The New Day & Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillains & The Dudley Boyz
At Extreme Rules, The New Day will defend the Tag Team Championships against the Vaudevillains after the Vaudevillains won the #1 Contender’s Tag Team Tournament by default when Enzo Amore’s injury ended the final match. Along with the Tag Team Championship feud, Big Cass has been keeping a feud alive with the Dudley Boyz that dates back to when Big Cass and Enzo Amore debuted on the main roster.
After turmoil causes most of the competitors to be laid out outside of the ring, Big Cass hits Bubba Ray Dudley with East River Crossing followed up by the Empire Elbow for the win. Winners: The New Day & Big Cass
Roman Reigns (w/The Usos) vs. Luke Gallows (w/Karl Anderson & AJ Styles)
Before the match starts, Mauro Ranallo announces that at Extreme Rules, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will take on the Usos for the third time, which completes the card. To main event the evening, Roman Reigns will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles for the second time after their epic clash at Payback.
This is Luke Gallows’s first singles match in WWE since the September 21, 2010 edition of Smackdown when he lost to CM Punk. With six years of experience since that match, this is a very different Luke Gallows than we have last seen wrestling in solo matches.
Karl Anderson enters the ring to hit the Boot of Doom along with Luke Gallows. Winner (via disqualification): Roman Reigns
