The World Wrestling Entertainment unleashes their “Fast Lane” event this Sunday with a main event between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan. The lines at the books for this fight have Reigns favored, but the number of options that are available to the WWE and the repercussions of this storyline and how it ties in to a Wrestlemania 31 opponent for Brock Lesnar make things very tricky.
Lesnar has been silent about his future plans, but his WWE contract expires ofter the March 29th Wrestlemania event. Because of Lesnar’s history with the UFc and his age, it is thought he will be returning to MMA for a final run. The need to prove himself after leaving MMA after two brutal losses as well as the fact that he can probably make more money headlining a couple of MMA PPVs than he is going to make re-signing with the WWE, it is thought he will be leaving the belt to either Reigns or Bryan.
Now, the winner of Reigns versus Bryan is heading to face Lesnar in March. This was thought to have been decided in December, when Reigns won the Royal Rumble, a show whose winner traditionally goes on to headline Wrestlemania.
Last year, Bryan inserted himself into the Wrestlemania proceedings and emerged as champion in the culmination of a heroic story line. Bryan gave up the belt and left for a hiatus due to an injury, and perhaps the WWE did not expect him to retain his peak popularity after the layoff, but he appears to be more popular than ever. More popular than Reigns anyway. In the chaotic, modern WWE however, you cannot discount Bryan and Reigns will end without a definitive finish, via a DQ or some type of interference or other gimmick. What that would do is open up the Wrestlemania main event to be a three-way type of fight between Regins, Bryan and Lesnar, and with the company looking to this March’s event as their showcase event, that is the most likely outcome.
Here is a short match between Daniel Bryan and “The Miz“. The in-ring action Bryan displays and crowd reaction to Bryan is a lot of what the drama is about:
