Heading into Week 5 of the college football season, the Mountaineers are 2-1 both Straight Up (SU) and Against The Spread (ATS). They should have plenty of offensive opportunities in this game, as the Cowboys have the 40th-ranked scoring defense in the nation. Their vulnerable defense gives up an average of 35.2 points per game. The Appalachian State run game is productive, currently ranking ninth in the nation with 288.3 rushing yards per game. Averaging just 21.0 points per game, Wyoming doesn’t feel threatening to the Mountaineers defense. The Cowboys might have a difficult time running the ball against the sixth-best run defense in the nation. The Mountaineers give up 72.7 rushing yards per game. One of the keys to the game will be whether the Mountaineers can take advantage of Wyoming’s shaky pass protection, which ranks 102nd in the nation in sacks allowed with 2.8 per game. The Mountaineers make it hard on their opponents in the second quarter. Appalachian State averages 16.3 points during that period, one of the best in the country. Appalachian State can top most teams in terms of time of possession. The Mountaineers have an average time of possession of 34:55 per game for fifth-highest in the nation.

On the other side, the Cowboys have a record of 1-3 ATS and 0-4 SU.
