The Yankees finally decided that reigning Rookie of the Year Miguel Andujar needs season-ending shoulder surgery, even as the team continues to win and challenge the Rays for first place. Across the country, the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda had the latest of a big night for pitchers. Elsewhere, Zack Greinke has an injury scare, baseball is trying to increase participation of black players and the Cubs are without Ben Zobrist because he’s dealing with a personal issue.
The Yankees obviously have some depth, but losing a player like Miguel Andujar, one of their young stars, is never a good thing.

Even when the Dodgers aren’t hitting, like they weren’t Wednesday night, they seem to get good pitching. And sometimes that good pitching produces the offense, too, as was the case with Kenta Maeda against the Padres.

Elsewhere in the NL West, the Diamondbacks have been a surprise team early but can’t afford to lose Zack Greinke. Hopefully this is a minor issue.
That gasp you heard was every #Dbacks fan watching Zack Greinke leave his shutout bid with 2 outs in the 8th, shaking his arm. With D-Backs leading 8-0, figure they’re just being precautious. Our @ramorin_azc will have whatever postgame update the team provides.

A cool idea here: Some Historically Black Colleges and Universities will participate in an HBCU World Series at the home of the White Sox next year.
With the decline in HBCU baseball, it’s great to see that we’ll have the inaugural HBCU World Series.https://t.co/IooNq6GXle

Meanwhile, a tough situation for Cubs utilityman Ben Zobrist, who is on leave while he reportedly undergoes a divorce.
