The UFC Fight Night 70 is scheduled for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida with a hard-hitting middleweight main event that features Yoel Romero battling Lyoto Machida.
The main event is a solid offering, as Machida has long been one of the UFC’s top contenders at light heavyweight and middleweight and Romero is a phenomenal athlete who is late in coming to MMA and looking to get on the fast track to a title shot. Romero is 9-1 overall in MMA and he has put together a strong, five-fight winning streak. Machida just turned 37 years old, and he is coming off a loss against Luke Rockhold. He has dropped two of his last three, also losing a title match against champion Chris Weidman, so he is in desperate need of a win.
The entire card will be aired on Fox Sports 1, and right now the sport books are carrying lines on eight fights, which is light for a UFC card. The UFC originally scheduled this card as the finals for their Brazilian reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”. The event was moved to south Florida, but the UFC had to make a lot of last minute changes and cancellations as many of the Brazilian fighters did not have visas up to date and did not have time to get them. As a result, this is the UFC event with the least amount of fights scheduled in a long time.
